Designer Shoe Sale Alert: Nordstrom Rack

Twice a year, Nordstrom Rack holds a designer shoe sale - one of which started today!  I stopped by the Union Square location on my way home from work to check it out and here's what I found.  Shoes are between 50%-70% off for both men and women.  There are a few racks set up near the cash register  which house the majority of the women's designer shoes.  Men's designer shoes, while still available but in fewer quantities are disbursed throughout the regular shoe section so some digging is required.  Keep in mind, sizing is sporadic as are styles but you can definitely score big at this sale.  Click below to see a sample of what's up for grabs (warning - this a pretty picture intensive post!).

Women's shoes:
As a general note, sizing was the best for smaller sizes (4.5-5.5) and larger sizes (9+).  Mid range sizes (6-8) were available but in fewer quantities.  There was a mix of designers but some of the more prominent ones included Prada and YSL (here's one of your last chances to get some items prior to the Saint Laurent name change).
Reed Krakoff nude slingback round toe $190 (was $595) - size 5.5
Marni color blocked chunky slingback $250 (was $756) - size 5.5
Manolo pointed slingback $200 (was $625) - size 5.5
Jimmy Choo gold glitter peep toe wedge $200 (was $625) - size 4.5

Jason Wu patent platform with white leather trim $300 (was $880) - size 9
Prada patent multi toned strappy platform $300 (was $990) - size 10

Men's shoes:
As noted above, there is no separate section for men's designer shoes so they are mixed together with the regular shoes.  Quantities are fewer but there's still some great deals to be had.  There were lots of derbies/oxfords and some sneakers and boots up for grabs.
Dolce & Gabbana brown lace ups $300 (was $695) - Size 7
DSquared2 sneaker $200 (was $495) - size 7.5

Overall,  it's definitely work taking a look at - I've scored a couple of amazing shoes here at some of the previous sales.  Let us know how you make out if you stop by!

Dupli-CAUGHT: Zara vs Alexander Mcqueen

Monk strap shoes have been making a splash the past few seasons in men's footwear.  It's a dapper look that I personally can't pull off - until now...enter the monk strap book with three buckles à la McQueen.  I love this boot - it's classy and has just enough rugged appeal to move it out of the traditional dapper realm and into street wear.
The above boot comes in burgundy, brown, and black and will set you back $795 (you can purchase them at Mr. Porter or Bergdorf's).
Meet the copycat - Zara's monk strap version. The shape and structure of the boot are almost identical to its McQueen counterpart except for a few minor details. The stitching patterns differ, there's a double buckle on this version and best of all (and most practical) - there's a zipper running down the back of the boot for ease.  This version will set you back $129 and although the quality of the leather isn't the same, it's not bad - I checked these out at the Bryant park location earlier this week. The zipper function is amazing - I hate fumbling to put boots on or take them off - so this was definitely a smart addition on Zara's part.
Just to prove a point, McQueen did this boot last winter with some metal plating (which was ditched along with the patent leather for this season).  Since it got reissued, I'm thinking the style did pretty well - and apparently, so did Zara.

Sample Sale Report: Matt Bernson

2012-06-29 17.05.082012-06-29 17.05.142012-06-29 17.05.202012-06-29 17.05.292012-06-29 17.05.402012-06-29 17.06.33
The Matt Bernson sample sale is now in Nolita. After wandering through the perilously confusing streets of Tribeca last time around, I was relieved not to get lost this time around. The space is small but well lit with plenty of windows offering natural light and most thankfully air conditioning which is so necessary on a day like this. The designer himself is by the door and cheerfully being introduced by friends to sample sale goers.

Boxes and boxes of shoes are present from sizes 6-10 although half sizes weren't as common, there were still a few. Shoes start at $50 and top out at $70 and the prices are indicated on each pair by a color coded sticker. Staffers in their bright yellow shirts are cheery and ready to help find sizes. Although there were no size 5s at the sale, Staffers happily pulled a few options that ran small and a couple of them could work for a size 5. The sale wasn't overly crowded but there was a steady flow of traffic.
