Now Wearing...

IMG_2165
So the challenge given to me was to create an outfit inspired by the newest member of the HTC family, the Droid Incredible 4G LTE for a chance to win one of my very own.  Since I felt up to the challenge this is my best Droid Incredible inspired look.

Recently, I have had the opportunity to test each of the Incredible models and I loved the sleek new re-design.  For my outfit, I am showing off my personal style evolution with a great new haircut that I received at the Paul LaBrecque Salon during the HTC Incredible Launch Event a few weeks ago.

I had always wanted an undercut since I saw them back in the 90s and the obsession only grew with my girl crush on the fearless Kate Lanphear. I finally took the plunge in a baby step getting part of one side of my head shaved for an edgy but still feminine new look.  While my hairstylist Mia was a little reluctant at first to shave part of my head I convinced her I was ready for a change.  She ended up being awesome and everyone who's seen my new haircut loves it.  I'm so glad I went for a leap - thanks to the staff at Paul LaBrecque and the folks at HTC for helping make my hair dreams happen.

IMG_2167IMG_2172IMG_2174
So how does one dress inspired by a phone? I decided that tone on tone textural elements with a flash of red was exactly the way to go. My Alexander Wang top and Nine West booties have a great modern shape and cutout elements that remind me of the sleek style curves on the back of the phone. My Asos sunburst pleat skirt brought to mind the ridged texture of the rubberized back surface. I also thought it's the kind of airy skirt that moves quickly, perhaps not quite the blazing speeds of the 4G LTE network but there is movement nonetheless. A pop of red lipstick and layered tank top are reminiscent of the bold flashes of red that encircle the phone's lens, in the Beats Audio speaker and the power button. I tried to mimic the matte/shine effects of the gunmetal shine of the phone's frame with a patent leather cutout belt and gunmetal jewels. Last but not least I added some clear shine that mirrors the flash of the 8 megapixel camera that turns on instantly using a large round rhinestone hair clip, trusty Mimi Gaia Rings and clear crystal bracelet.  Did I mention that the new camera can also simultaneously snap video and photos? Amazing! Or should I say incredible?

While I'm still testing out the phone and learning all about the features, I'm loving the blazing speeds that match the fashionable design!  It's a phone that will help keep my at times chaotic life in order.

What do you think about a phone inspired outfit?

Nail Art Fun with CND Shellac

Erin and I have written about CND quite in a bit in the past, so by now you're probably familiar with the long lasting Power Polish manicures.  I recently had the pleasure of attending CND Shellac SpaSanctunary and preview event, where I got to check out the new fall colors and learn about all the fun nail art that can be done with Shellac.

My favorites from the fall collection - Midnight Swim, Sugared Spice & Vexed Violette.

CND (Creative Nail Design) is a professional nail polish and a partner for many runway shows like The Blonds, Nicole Miller, Behnaz Sarafpour, and Rachel Antonoff.

CND nails at Rachel Antonoff Fall 2012

Founder Jan Arnold's Comme des Garçons inspired nails

CND Shellac collection has grown over the past couple of years, and with additives (pigment powders, shimmer, glitter, foils, etc) the possibilities really are endless.  For my last manicure, AstroWifey created the custom orange for me with CND's pigment powders.  The nail art details like glitter or painted designs go on right before the last top coat.

At the event, I choose a teal colored polish as a base and asked the nail tech to create an ombre effect with red and dark silver glitter.  The glitter manicure was already cool enough, but lucky me, AstroWifey was working the event and she added mini records to my nails.

I used to rarely treat myself to manicures because they felt like a waste of money with how quickly they would chip, but my last few experiences with CND have really changed my mind.  Two consecutive Shellac manicures and CND's SolarOil have done wonders for my cuticles and nails.  My nails are the longest they've ever been, and they look so healthy!  I've now made it a part of my evening routine to apply SolarOil.

Barney's Warehouse Sale: Coming to a Computer Near You

If you're a fan of the Barney's warehouse sale,  brace yourself - the sale is going online this year! If you want access to an early preview you can sign up here.  Usually the pricing at the beginning of the warehouse sale is the same as the final markdown in stores/online - so the warehouse sale might just be a continuation of their current sale now (which is up to 75% off).

For all the die hard fans out there, fear not, there will still be a physical sale held at the Chelsea Co-op store from Aug 23-Sept 3, 2012.  Since the markdowns get pretty fierce at the end, it might be worth fighting the crowds and scouring through the piles of merch.  Despite its craziness, this sale holds a special place in my retail heart - I've come away with insane deals on some amazing pieces but it can definitely be a hit or miss.

Sorrelli x Pinkberry Launch in Park Slope

2012-07-15 14.46.38
On Sunday lovely ladies gathered together at Brooklyn's first Pinkberry location in Park Slope to celebrate the launch of Sorrelli's Pinkberry jewelry line that was inspired by the colors of the icy cold frozen yogurt and vibrant toppings.  Pinkberry is an innovative Frozen Yogurt retailer that first launched in West Hollywood, California in 2005 and have since taken the world by storm with over 190 locations worldwide.

You might ask what does frozen yogurt have to with jewelry?  The concept behind the collection that is sweet enough to eat was to be refreshing, luminous, high quality and above all original.  Since sparkle was important to the collection, Swarovski Elements faceted crystals are paired perfectly with signature Sorrelli style.  The finished result is bold, vibrant and beautiful.

Even better? 10% off the proceeds from the collection are donated to the American Breast Cancer Society's Brooklyn Chapter to support women from the local neighborhood.
2012-07-15 14.46.562012-07-15 14.47.092012-07-15 14.49.222012-07-15 14.49.35
The day was sweltering and it was nice to cool down with adorable ladies all decked out in their best Pinkberry inspired garb. As for myself I lost track of the day and left the house wearing a floaty Alexander Wang top and striped seersucker shorts but by sheer chance had bejeweled myself with a Sorrelli ring and necklace in addition to other jewelry from my wardrobe. But as soon as I was given the opportunity I added to my sparkle with the brightly colored Sorrelli x Pinkberry cocktail ring and star necklace that reminds me of Jem & the Holograms. So my pink carpet walk (yes you heard me correctly!) ended up being Pinkberry inspired afterall. It was a great time seeing some blogger friends I hadn't seen in a while and hanging out with the lovely and sweet Sorrelli crew.
2012-07-15 15.30.17
We also got a chance to style our own Pinkberry treats inspired by the jewelry collaboration. I went for the classic pinkberry style arrangement with a Raspberry on top, not unlike my sparkling new cocktail ring. I used kiwi, mango and strawberries on a strawberry swirl yogurt that corresponded with all the gem stone shades and competed for best styled Pinkberry for a chance to win a giftcard. Since I saw ladies hand placing almonds on their creations I thought I wouldn't have a chance and was stunned when my cocktail ring inspired styling took the win. Regardless I had a great time staying cool on a sweltering day.  Thanks Pinkberry and Sorrelli for making my day.

PS. If you live in Brooklyn and want to have the chance to style your own Pinkberry tonight is the Grand Opening and they will be swirling free small cups from 6pm-10pm.

Sample Sale Report: Fenton/Fallon July 2012

UPDATE: As per Fenton/Fallon's Twitter SALE CLOSED EARLY at 2PM today.
The Fenton/Fallon Sample Sale is one that I make sure that I never miss.  While much of the merchandise moved earlier during the day I went after work at 6:45pm to a much quieter showroom with only a few other shoppers in the spacious well lit space.
IMAG0020
While you could snag lapel pins for as little as $10, most of the merchandise was priced starting at $40 plus.  Prices reached up to $120 for the Fenton merchandise and most pieces were individually labelled with price stickers.  If you happen to like a piece you have to act quickly because most merchandise at the sale is a one-off or available in small quantities (ie. 2-3 of any piece).  Since all merchandise is currently on the floor what you see here in these photos are a good indication what is left.
Please note I've removed some of the photos at the request of Fenton-Fallon.  I've left the descriptions so that you can get an indication of the pricing

If you are looking for bold statement jewelry that is sure to get noticed for a reasonable price, this is definitely the sale for you.  I happen to own a few pieces and so far none of them have tarnished or turned my skin green :)

Not sure if they are going to drop prices tomorrow, but shop early for best selection and it might be worth dropping by at the end of the day if you're looking to try to swoop in on a bargain.  During previous sample sales there were some serious mark-downs on the last day but no guarantees.

Introducing: Gilt Live

No one could ever accuse Gilt Groupe of lacking in innovation.  They changed the way the world shopped online for designer merchandise by giving shopping a sense of urgency.

Now Gilt takes things a step further with the launch of Gilt Live on Gilt.com.  The new photo stream format reminds me a little bit of Pinterest but now instead of aspirational images you're seeing what other members are buying in real time.  If you hold your mouse over an image you can see a quick overview of the product - the brand, the price, the cost and when it was purchased.  There are also options to share with your friends through Twitter, Pinterest and Facebook.  Items that have five or less remaining will show a countdown in the corner showing that how many are left.

While I'm not sure what I think of the new format it's fun to quickly browse through multiple categories to see what other people are buying and what you have to move quickly on simultaneously.  While I don't think this will be a shopping game changer by any means it's good to keep pushing forward and try new ways to shop.

Adorable & Affordable: Bass x Rachel Antonoff

I purchased these Rachel Antonoff x Bass "Maebird" oxfords just last week, and they've quickly moved up the ranks in my shoe collection.  The two times I've worn them I've received quite a few compliments; a meeting was literally delayed because my team wanted to discuss my fresh footwear.

These clear and black patent flats are quite comfortable.  The sole is nicely padded, but as one can imagine plastic doesn't breath that well.  So while not ideal for hot summer days, they're pretty great otherwise and could easily be worn into the fall with bold colored socks!

Worn without socks, it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep Band-Aid Friction Block handy at least for the first couple wears.

The flats are quite affordable even at their retail price $129, but I found them for under $100 at Amazon.  In case your size runs out, they're also available with a little discount on Zappos.  Speaking of sizes, Bass runs a bit large so I would recommend sizing down half a size.

Target x Neiman Marcus x 24 Designers

Target announced today that it will be teaming up with Neiman Marcus and 24 American designers for a limited-edition holiday collection.  Partnering with CFDA, the two retail giants are setting out to create a collection of 50+ items for gifting which range from clothing, to home decor, to pet products, to sporting goods and more.  Prices range from $7.99-$499.99 with most items coming in under $60 and will be available in both Target and Neiman Marcus stores (and online) December 1, 2012.

If case you're wondering who the 24 designers are - here they are:  Alice + Olivia, Altuzarra, Band of Outsiders, Brian Atwood, Carolina Herrera, Derek Lam, Diane von Furstenburg, Eddie Borgo, Jason Wu, Judith Leiber, Lela Rose, Marchesa, Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta, Philip Crangi, Prabal Gurung, Proenza Schouler, Rag & Bone, Robert Rodriguez, Rodarte, Skaist-Taylor, Thom Browne, Tory Burch and Tracy Reese.

According to Target:
"The designers were given the freedom to explore categories they felt strongly about—some chose to create products that fall in their area of 'expertise,' while others took this as an opportunity to explore an entirely new category. What results is an unforgettable collaboration that we can’t wait for you to see."

Nail Artist: AstroWifey

Last week I was in the Dominican Republic for a wedding.  The Sunday before my trip, I ventured to Jefferson Park to visit manicurist and nail artist AstroWifey for festive "no chip" manicure.

I came to AstroWifey with a few ideas in mind, and I could not be more pleased with how she brought the "his & her" theme to life.  It may be a bit hard to tell from these pictures, but she even drew different style eyeglasses.  Yes, she hand painted each of those designs!  Amazing right?

This manicure has been one of the best manicures of my life.  It's been 10 days and I literally have just one chip, and this is after a hell of a lot of activity - traveling, carrying DJ equipment, swimming, playing in sand, zip lining, horseback riding, and biking.  AstroWifey uses CND Shellac.  You may remember Erin's writeup about it awhile back.  The shine really does hold up!  And CND has some new powders, so your manicurist can custom make colors like this bright orange by AstroWifey.

I had such a great experience and her prices are very reasonable.  I highly recommend it!  It can be a bit of a trek from the east side, but if you live off the blue line, it's actually super easy to get there.  To view her price list and book an appointment, visit her page on StyleSeat.
